A Beaded Art Doll is a physical representation in three dimensions, using human figural and expressive characteristics, through the creative use and manipulation of beads. Floating Bridge Press awards an annual Poetry Chapbook Award to the best chapbook submitted to an open competition for Washington State poets.
The winning poet currently receives a minimum of $500 plus 15 copies of a perfect-bound, archival-quality chapbook, and local promotion and distribution of the winning chapbook. Winning poet also receives a featured reading in the Seattle area.
Three or four finalists receive $50 and are also featured at the winner’s reading.
All entrants are considered for inclusion in Pontoon, a Floating Bridge Press poetry anthology. In addition, Floating Bridge Press has occasionally produced broadsides of selected poems.

The Grays Harbor Historical Seaport Authority announces a competition for the design of a logo for Seaport Landing, a new home for the ships on the Aberdeen waterfront. The logo will become a key component in public communications for the project, which is currently in the design and fundraising stages. Judging will include an opportunity for the public at large to vote for its favorite design via the Historical Seaport’s website.
The Seaport Landing Logo Design Contest is open to everyone. Prizes include two gift certificates: One for a Lady Washington / Hawaiian Chieftain sailing; the second for two youths aged 11 to 17 to sail for a week aboard Lady Washington and Hawaiian Chieftain in the summer of 2009 to the San Juan Islands of Puget Sound.

This call for expressions of interest by the City of Vancouver’s Olympic and Paralympic Public Art Program seeks artists for a significant public art commission for the Northwest plaza of Vancouver’s Central Library in Vancouver, British Columbia.
Given the site and strength of the architecture, this commission should animate the plaza within the context of the scale of the buildings and the current use of the space by pedestrians and special events.
This commission is an opportunity to leave a legacy befitting the Library’s role as the city’s most popular public institution and a vibrant community resource. The City is seeking an artist or artist team to create artwork that draws on the Library’s mandate to reach and enrich all, while reinforcing the spirit and intent of the Olympic movement.

The High Desert Rendezvous Art of the West show is scheduled for July 29- August 21, 2009. The Show, which will be held in the High Desert Museum’s Collins Gallery, provides the opportunity for the public to view and bid on items from an exclusive collection of fine art from pre-eminent artists of the West.

Applicants are selected based on their skill level and potential, rather than specific media or area of interest. Students are open to explore drawing, mixed media, painting, printmaking, sculpture and design (graphic/communication design, interaction design), or a hybrid of art and design with guidance from the faculty.

Capturing an image that shows an unusual combination or contrast is rewarding but can be challenging. Cause the viewer to pause and explore the relationships of the objects in the frame. Why are they together? How are they similar? How are they different?
About the jurors: Charles Cramer has photographed the landscape for 30 years and is recognized as a master printmaker. National Geographic Books, Sierra Club, and the Yosemite Association have published Charles Cramer’s work. He is also featured in the book, Landscape: The World’s Top Photographers, published by Rotovision. - Janet Jones is a San Francisco artist working in printmaking, painting, collage, assemblage, photography and digital techniques. Currently her three-dimensional photo-assemblage - Michael Collopy is one of the preeminent portrait photographers of our time. His portfolio includes portraits of world leaders and entertainers such as Mikhail Gorbachev, Margaret Thatcher, Mick Jagger and Luciano Pavarotti.

Kennewick Arts Commission (KAC) is seeking an artist or team of artists to create the first piece of public art initiated by the Commission. The sculpture will celebrate the establishment of the Tri-Cities Business and Visitor Center. This regionally significant building is located adjacent to the Tri-Cities Convention Center Complex and houses the Tri-City Development Council, the Tri-City Regional Chamber of Commerce and the Tri-Cities Visitor and Convention Bureau.
The spirit of the sculpture should celebrate the design, strength and purpose of the building, with possible reference to the regional non-profit partners housed in the building, the business and/or tourism elements and the location. Regional history, achievements and attributes could be included in the design. The piece should be of significant size and weight appropriate for the proposed location near the main entrance to the building.
Suggested materials include metal, local stone materials such as granite, basalt and obsidian, or reclaimed materials from locally significant sources. Kinetic elements will be considered but water elements are not encouraged. An amount of $25,000 has been established within the project budget for the sculpture itself and includes design, fabrication, all taxes, shipping/transportation and installation oversight.
Professional artists or teams living in Washington and within a radius of 150 miles of Kennewick, Washington, may apply. Artist selection will be based on the strength and quality of proposal as well as past work as demonstrated by a resume and digital images of past projects. Additional consideration will be given for creative use of materials and relevance to the project site.

Orsoni Prize 2009, International Award for Mosaic Fine Art
Mosaic artists may apply in two categories, 2D and 3D through Juried Art Services for Orsoni Smalti Veneziani’s biennial Orsoni Prize. Orsoni Smalti Veneziani has been producing Venetian smalti and 24k gold mosaic since 1888. Honorary President Maestro Lucio Orsoni and Pino Bisazza, founder and President of Trend Group, will judge the competition.
The Grand Prize Winner will receive Euro 1,000, a round-trip ticket to Venice, Italy to attend a one-week Orsoni Master in Mosaic course between Oct. 2009-Oct. 2010 and six nights at Domus Orsoni, the bed & breakfast located at the Orsoni foundry in Venice. In addition, one Honorable Mention and three finalists will be awarded a total of six kilos of Orsoni 24k gold mosaic.
The winners will be announced September 9, 2009.

The Center for Documentary Studies at Duke University announces an international call for the “Dorothea Lange-Paul Taylor Prize”, a $20,000 award. Work will be featured in document, as well as in a virtual gallery on the CDS web site.
The prize is intended to fund collaborative work by a writer and a photographer in the formative or fieldwork stages of a documentary project. Submissions on any subject are welcome. Collaboration is essential to the nature of the work this award supports; therefore, individual submissions will not be considered.
More than two people may apply as long as one of the collaborators is a writer and one is a photographer working with black-and-white or color still photography. Individuals currently associated with the Center for Documentary Studies are not eligible for the prize.
Entry Fee: $40.

The Beaverton Arts Commission invites artists to submit public art proposals for consideration for the placement of work in three areas of the Children’s Section of the Beaverton City Library: 1) On the portal archway leading into the Children’s Section; 2) On the Frieze (up to a total of five sections are available); and 3) On the front and side panels of the Children’s Desk.
The Beaverton City Library, one of the busiest library facilities in the state, serves a population of approximately 106,000. Each month over 70,000 people visit the Library to check out over 1.7 million items per year. The Library is open 7 days per week and maintains a collection of over 300,000 items.
